Frequently Asked Questions Regarding Raw Milk Raw fresh cow milk is available through the purchase of shares in our dairy herd, whereby shareholders own a percentage of the cow herd and consume the products of the herd. How do shares work? You purchase a share in the dairy cow herd and pay a monthly boarding fee for the farmer to care for and milk the cows. You sign a legal boarding agreement and pay the boarding fee. Quarterly or monthly payments are available. What does a share cost? Each share of the herd costs $25.00. Partial shares are available. This is a one-time, non refundable purchase price. The boarding fees are $7.00 per week, per gallon. The monthly boarding fee is calculated by the number of weeks in a given month. For example, if you purchase a full milk share and your pickup day is Wednesday, and there are four Wednesdays in that month, then your boarding fee for that month would be $7.00 x 4 weeks = $28.00. Partial shares are available and the boarding fees are prorated accordingly. Boarding fee prices are subject to change, given changes in the price of feed, hay, supplies, labor, etc. What do I get for my share? A full milk share will provide one gallon of milk per week stored in half-gallon glass mason jars. There is a fee for the jars upon signing the contract. Milk production is year round. What happens if I go on vacation or business travel? Am I still responsible for the boarding fee? Yes, the monthly boarding fee is still due. The animals must be fed, milked, and cared for every week. Arrangements for travel may be made on a case-by-case basis, with advanced notice and only under special circumstances. What else is required of me? Empty jars should be cleaned and returned each week. Have any other questions? Please contact me at teri@realityfarminc.com |
